Cosplay competition is back for the third year in a row at Lan ETS 2018!

Here are the official rules:

The Lan ETS Cosplay competition welcomes amateur costume makers inspired by all things comic books, films, animation, and video games.

There are two categories of participation.

Sketch (skit) – A short presentation that can be done alone or in a group. The time allocated is 1 minute for all groups of 3 participants or less, for larger groups the time is increased to 1 minute 30 seconds. Should the sketch run longer than the allowed time, the lights and sound will be cut, and the participants will be escorted off stage and disqualified.

Parade (Walk-on) – Presentation of a costume made by the participant. Participants will step on from one end of the stage and be able to pose in their costume to show different angles of their costumes, they will then continue across stage to exit from the other side. Background music is allowed but must be provided in advanced by the participant.

Registration for the competition can be done as follows:

On site at the designated table for the cosplay competition. Hours of operation for the registration table will be between 18h00 and 21h00.

The deadline to register is Friday night at midnight. If the number of participants didn’t reach the maximum, it will be possible to register on saturday between 9h00 and 11h00.

All participants must be present in the waiting area as the event begins at 11h00 on saturday. Please note that a large volume of groups and costumes that are larger than normal could decrease the total number of registered participants. At this time, the total number of entries shall be limited to 35, the organizing committee reserves the right to change this maximum at a moment’s notice.

Rules

A short description of your costume or a short scenario that is no longer than 70 words may be submitted to be read by the master of ceremonies as we call you or your group on stage for your presentation. It must be submitted with your registration online or at the registration table.

Microphones will not be provided. The use of a pre-recorded track is strongly recommended, this track must be an .mp3 or .mp4 format. To assure the smooth operation and to avoid confusion, please submit a functioning USB key containing only the music you selected for your performance, to the registration table. Tag the USB key with your performance title and the number we will provide for your passage. We suggest each participant keep a copy in the case of technical difficulties. Lan ETS is not responsible in case of loss or damage of the USB key submitted.

The maximum number of participants in a group is limited to six (6). We will not accept groups that are larger than the limit.

The use of naked flames, liquids, food, powders and flash paper is prohibited on stage. Neither laser pointers nor glitters are permitted for use during performance.

No substances that may leave a trace is authorized on stage. In doubt, please check with an organizer of the Lan ETS Cosplay competition during registration. The stage must be left in the same state when you step on and off. If you leave any objects on stage, they must be easy for the technical team to fetch off stage before the following participant. If you would like the object placed for your skit, you must provide your own stage tech.

Obvious nudity will not be tolerated. The show is recommended for an audience of 13 years old and older, but children 12 years and younger may be in the audience accompanied by an adult.

Firearms and replicas of any real firearm are prohibited, as well as any knives and blades, sharpened or not. If your costume requires a bow, we ask that it not be strung while off stage. All weapons must follow these guidelines, NO EXCEPTIONS will be made.

All participants are allowed one presentation on stage. If you should want to present multiple costumes, you must find others to wear them for you. These participants that wear your costume may present individually or as a group.

Participants must be in the waiting area at their requested time. We ask that all participants visit the registration table for more details. Participants that are not at the waiting area nor ready to present at their given time will be disqualified. Exceptions to this rule are at the discretion of the director of the contest.

This is an amateur competition, costumes bought online or rented are not eligible for the prize. Furthermore, any costume made for professional showings or professional theatre are not eligible for the prize. These costumes may still be presented in the “non-contesting” category. Registration priority is given to costumes which fit criteria for the main prize, thus “non-contesting” costumes will be accepted should space be available.

Costumes tailored by a third party are ONLY accepted in the case where the costume maker has filled out the registration. The costume maker is not required to go on stage but must be present in the waiting area at the specified time. Wigs, small accessories, and jewellery are exempt from this rule.

The judges’ decisions are final and definitive. The winners as well as honourable mentions are at the discretion of the judges and the direction of Lan ETS Cosplay competition.

The direction and the judges of Lan ETS Cosplay competition reserve the right to disqualify any and all participants whom do not respect the rules outlined above.
